Thomas Gordy - Rolfer

Thomas Gordy lives, practices and teaches bodywork in Reno, Nevada.
Thomas believes that bodywork is an art, and the language of that art is anatomy and physiology. As with all art, it is an everlasting journey of learning, discovering, and sharing.
Thomas began his bodywork career in New York City where he worked for The Movement Salon, a Pilates, Yoga, and Bodywork studio. With an education from the Swedish Institute, the oldest and one of the premier bodywork schools in the nation, Thomas specialized in myofascial release and deep tissue massage.
In an effort to develop his skills and better serve his clients, Thomas enrolled and completed his certification with the Guild for Structural Integration, an organization dedicated to the teachings of Ida P. Rolf. As a student, Thomas trained under Neal Powers, former President of the Rolf Institute and Emmett Hutchins, recognized leader in the field and among the first two appointed instructors of Ida P. Rolf. Thomas completed additional training with senior members of the Rolf Institute; Michael Salveson and Jan Sultan. Thomas also studied both biomechanics and visceral manipulation with Elizabeth Gaginni. Before moving to Reno, Thomas began his Rolf career in San Francisco where he maintained a private Rolf practice as well as working for Immune Enhancement Project, a clinic specializing in alternative care for HIV, cancer, and various other disease.

Thomas Working

In addition to his own studies, Thomas began teaching bodywork by assisting Art Riggs, a well respected Rolfer and renown instructor in the field. Soon thereafter Thomas began teaching on his own and is now a nationally certified bodywork instructor (NCBTMB) teaching advanced classes in private workshops and for massage therapy schools and associations.
Thomasí first introduction to bodywork was in 1996 when, after suffering from chronic neck pain, back pain and sciatica, he first experienced ten sessions of Rolfing. At that time, Thomas was working in New Orleans as a public-interest attorney, representing juveniles and victims of domestic violence. The experience with Rolfing left him pain-free and performing at a much higher level in athletics. Given the positive impact of Rolfing on his life and a need to switch his focus, Thomas made the career change to massage therapy, leading to his training with the Guild. Since that time, he has endeavored to continually learn, listen, and serve his clients, sharing the benefits and joys of the work with anyone who walks through the door.
